ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units.

 

Prior to the course, please complete the AHA mandated pre-course self assessment, and BRING THE RESULTS to the course. 

• Key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

• Critical concepts of high-quality CPR

• The American Heart Association Chain of Survival

• 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant

• 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant

• Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques

• Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant

• Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant

• Relief of choking for adult, child and infant

• CPR with an advanced airway*

* This is an introduction to the compression/ventilation rate and ratio for a patient who has an advanced airway in place. For more information on advanced airways, please refer to the Airway Management Course.

Initial Provider Course requires approximately 4 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.

Renewal Course requires approximately 3.5 hours, including skills practice and skills testing.

The Cataldo Ambulance Service EMT program offers comprehensive outcomes based curricula designed to prepare graduates who are competent and compassionate critical thinkers committed to lifelong learning. This EMT program utilizes a combination of competency-based didactic (classroom) portion and performance based laboratory portion that will prepare the student to take the state and national certification examinations.

The program is committed to graduating students who are competent entry level health care providers.  It is expected that graduates will demonstrate empathy and caring in patient treatment as they utilize critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in the application of their skills. 

The program strives to instill in graduates a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. It is expected that graduates of the EMS Program will continue to enhance their skills through continuing education. 

The faculty of the program are all experienced EMS professionals and each faculty member is committed to ongoing development and improvement of all aspects of the program. This continuing development is vital in assuring that each program’s academic curricula are of the highest quality and reflective of current practice.

Access to a computer and internet is required to complete the online assignments related to the course. Students must attend all classes and achieve 100% attendance, a minimum course average of 80%, and successfully pass the class final practical examination prior to being eligible to achieve candidate status for the state practical examination and NREMT written exam. 

The EMT initial training program will run Monday through Friday each week for approximately 30 days. Please click on each class to see the specific dates. The student must attend all classes and complete all work as assigned by the Instructor / Coordinator in order to complete this course.

 

This practical exam registration is for students who completed the EMT course with CATALDO AMBULANCE ONLY. If you took your course somewhere else, please do not register for this section – if you simply show up for the exam you will be turned away by OEMS.

The on-line portion can be completed in approximately 1 to 2 hours; time to complete a skills practice and testing session varies. Cataldo Ambulance Service is proud to sponsor Mortality and Morbidity Rounds at the Cataldo Education Center in Woburn for CAS/AAS Staff ONLY.  Each topic is hand selected by a Beth Israel Medical Center ER Resident as a recent and intriguing case brought in by EMS and warranting further discussion and research.

The role of a paramedic is to provide safe and efficient response, treatment, and transportation of all persons requesting or requiring emergent or non-emergent medical services. In addition to being qualified for everything an EMT can perform, paramedics are qualified to perform more advanced procedures and offer advanced life support. These capabilities allow for greater patient support and a wide range of career growth opportunities from nursing school to firefighter training to SmartCare.

Our 14-month program features cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning techniques which integrate instruction, practical skill sessions, simulation, clinical practice, and a field internship. Program participants will attend lectures and clinical rotations at area hospitals as well as home study assignments. The Paramedic Training Program is partnered with Endicott College offering 29 credits towards a bachelor’s degree upon admission to Endicott College.

The Cataldo Education Center Paramedic Program is now offered to Cataldo team members for just $79 per month.  To qualify for this special rate, team members must be full-time and have worked for Cataldo Ambulance for six months in good standing.

This is the Practical session for Nero's Law.  Please be sure to complete the Didactic portion first on Prodigy and be prepared to show your certificate of completion if asked.  This training is for Cataldo employees only.
